AvianScope ("we," "us," or "our") operates avianscope.com (the "Site"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights with respect to that information. By using the Site, you agree to the practices described here.
1. Information We Collect
Information you provide directly
- Account information: If you create an account (operator or birder), we collect your email address and any profile details you provide.
- Purchase information: When you purchase a digital product, Stripe collects your payment details on our behalf. We store only the transaction record (product, timestamp, email) — not your card number.
- Contact form submissions: If you submit our contact form, we collect your name, email, subject, and message.
- Trip planner inputs: Destinations, dates, and preferences you enter into the trip planner.
Information collected automatically
- Usage data: Pages visited, time on site, referring URL, browser type, and device type, collected via Google Analytics.
- Cookies: We use cookies for analytics (Google Analytics), session management (Supabase Auth), and affiliate tracking. See Section 5 for details.
- IP address: Logged by our hosting and analytics providers for security and analytics purposes.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To process and fulfill digital product purchases (deliver download links).
- To provide and improve the trip planner, hotspot maps, and discovery features.
- To respond to contact form submissions and customer support requests.
- To send transactional emails (purchase confirmations, download links). We do not send marketing emails without your explicit consent.
- To analyze site usage and improve content and user experience.
- To prevent fraud and enforce our Terms of Use.
3. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal data. We share information only in the following circumstances:
- Stripe: Payment processing. Stripe's privacy policy governs their handling of payment data.
- Supabase: Database and authentication services. Data is stored in Supabase's cloud infrastructure.
- Google Analytics: Aggregated, anonymized usage analytics.
- Vercel / hosting providers: Site hosting and CDN infrastructure.
- Legal requirements: If required by law, subpoena, or to protect the rights and safety of AvianScope or others.
4. Data Retention
We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services. Purchase records are retained for up to 7 years for tax and legal compliance. You may request deletion of your data at any time by contacting us at hello@avianscope.com.
5. Cookies
We use the following categories of cookies:
- Essential cookies: Required for account session management and site functionality (Supabase Auth). Cannot be disabled.
- Analytics cookies: Google Analytics (GA4) to understand site traffic. You can opt out via browser settings or the Google Analytics Opt-out Extension.
- Affiliate cookies: Set when you click an affiliate link to attribute purchases. These persist for up to 30 days.
6. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correction: Request correction of inaccurate data.
- Deletion: Request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten").
- Portability: Request your data in a machine-readable format.
- Objection: Object to certain processing activities.

7. Children's Privacy
AvianScope is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such data, please contact us immediately.
8. Third-Party Links
Our Site contains links to external websites, including affiliate links to retailers and partner sites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites and encourage you to review their privacy policies.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be noted with an updated "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Site after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
